It takes the whole village to raise one child!
- Proverbs 22:6 – "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it”.
- Deuteronomy 6:6-7 – “And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”
- Proverbs 29:17 – “Discipline your son, and he will give you rest; he will give delight to your heart.".
- Mark 10:14 – “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”
A Swiss philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseaux said: « A person is good by nature; it is society that corrupts him”. In his view, Mr. Rousseaux believes a newborn baby’s life will eventually reflect in adulthood the values of the community where he/she lives. An African proverb shows the important role of the community in the life a growing child. It says: “It takes a whole village to raise one child”.
AMI-BURUNDI understands that we invest in children by building the church of both today and tomorrow. That is why this summer we will hold the fourth Vocation Bible Schools in different locations in Burundi. Building on previous experience, our teachers will work with children ages 6 to 13. Last year alone (2023) we served 546 children in 3 locations and 41 teenagers accepted Jesus as their personal Savior and Lord!
We are anticipating a total of 600 children this summer and we will be running this VBS program for 5 days. It costs $2 a day to cover expenses per child; costs that include food, materials, and honorarium for teachers. Including $1000 for incidentals and unforeseen expenses, we are looking to raise $7,000 for VBS 2024!
Please consider joining us in this ministry. You can do it by sponsoring one child ($10); five children ($50), or any other amount as the Lord leads you.
